Volunteers in Community Development Kenya (VICDK) it is a charitable, non-profit, non-political, non-religious volunteer organization since 2008.VICDK has been running volunteer programs in Kenya for community support and cultural exchanges. Programs are available year-round in the areas of English teaching, orphanage, conservation work, health, and many more as per the interest of volunteers. We give both technical and non-technical support to deprived communities and organizations. Our objective is to stimulate local development initiatives for vulnerable people in desperate situations. We aim to promote individual, community, and environmental and sociological empowerment by educating using an inclusive, multicultural mentality. We address all races, religions and sexes equally, and try to strengthen the human bond through creating friendship and understanding of each other. We believe our unique approach begins a peaceful, respectful and loving attitude, which will benefit the people’s rights, the people’s self-belief and the people’s progression. VICDK It is managed by a board of directors who are experienced in the areas of social work, education, business management, finance and accounting, psychology, environmental health,counseling,community development and law among others.


 

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES BY VOLUNTEERS IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT KENYA (VICDK)

VICDK offers short term, medium and long term projects throughout the year for technical and non-technical volunteers, development personnel and students. Participants will be able to offer their own services learnt from previous experience’s, as well as adopt styles appropriate to the task. You will have the ideal opportunity to enter into familiar settings where you can utilize your talents, or learn new ones. Our internship opportunity will give you an edge over others and improve your chances of securing a job and gaining valuable work experience. More it will give you opportunity to make a difference, influence your career choice, cultural diversity

Internship Placement In Kenya

We locate and get you and internship placement in Kenya. Our placements include host family housing and two meals a day. Living with a family provides you with security and an ideal opportunity to learn about the local culture.

Reception of Volunteers
A member of staff will meet you on arrival and help transport you to your location.

Program participation fees
Application Fees: €60.00. Application fees covers administration, program information, communication and the airport pick up. With the remainder of your fee due for payment eight weeks before you begin your placement.The 60 Euro are non refundable they cater for the treatment of your request.

VOLUNTEER INTERNSHIPS IN KENYA

Children Orphanage internships-The orphanage program cares for children who have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS and for children who have been abused by their parents. Volunteers will assist with the daily running of the orphanages. Cleaning, bathing children, cooking etc. The evenings are spent playing with the children and helping them with their homework.

Maasailand Volunteer Internships In Kenya

The Maasai have largely managed to remain separate from mainstream African culture and maintain their traditional ways, although this becomes more challenging each year. For this reason Maasai are increasingly seeking opportunities African society has to offer. With little government support Maasai struggle to find teachers and medical professionals to work in their schools and hospitals. Less than half of all Maasai children attend schools, teaching volunteers are urgently needed to reverse this trend. Volunteers have the opportunity to educate children at primary and secondary school level. Subjects taught include English, maths, science and health. Medical internship-Volunteers on this program need to be registered medical doctors or nurses. Volunteers work with local doctors to assist with the daily medical routine - applying dressings, prescribing minor medication, recording patient history, patient consultations, minor surgeries, and counseling patients. Volunteers can work in the areas of maternal health, surgery, laboratories, dental clinics, counseling, and testing.

A Euro 60 application fee will secure your place on the program, with the remainder of your fee due for payment eight weeks before you begin your placement.

Teaching Internships in Kenya

Volunteers on the teaching program have the opportunity to assist with the teaching of different subjects in primary schools and secondary schools. Volunteer teachers can teach mathematics, English, science, history, geography, business education, , art and music. Volunteers are not required to have teaching experience. Objectivity to increase the numbers of teachers and fight illiteracy level . Teaching program is also closed during school holidays which run during April, August and December/early January. Volunteer teachers can work during school holidays if the majority of their placement is during the school term. These volunteers need to come prepared to volunteer in the orphanage program during holiday times

Medical internships

The medical program is located in hospitals in Kenya. Volunteers on this program need to be registered medical doctors or nurses. Volunteers work with local doctors to assist with the daily medical routine - applying dressings, prescribing minor medication, recording patient history, patient consultations, minor surgeries record keeping, and counseling patients. Volunteers can work in the areas of maternal health, surgery, laboratories, dental clinics, counseling, and testing. Objectivity- trained volunteers are needed to work in a community clinic to increase access to basic healthcare and promote health education in the local community Rural Home stay internships All those who want to experience the local rural life in Kenya and exchange their culture with the local people

HIV And AIDS Counseling Internships in Kenya

Volunteers are urgently required to work in the community, orphanage and schools, educating and counseling students and community members about the disease. This program also encourages volunteers to learn and share their knowledge with other people.

Forestry Internships in Kenya

Volunteers are given an opportunity to put their theoretical work into practice in one of the forest here in Kenya. Those undertaking their dissertation paper are welcomed

NB. An orientation will be conducted for all participants to highlight more on all aspects relating to their project upon arrival.

The volunteer program locations are all over Kenya.
Who Qualifies to volunteer in Kenya

  1. Men and women above 18 years of age from all countries, regardless of race, religion or education.
  2. Open minded people who can learn and share new and old skills and knowledge with others.
  3. Participants who are willing to adapt to their situation regardless of phobias, fears of distractions.
  4. Participants who are development focused.

The costs you need to meet are:
Your air ticket to and from the country, visa fees, vaccinations, local travelcosts,accommodation costs outside project and insurance, You will also need a weekly budget of around €10 to cover your expenses like bottled water, personal effects, public transport, beverages, entertainment and transport costs to and from project site.

Volunteer Accommodation:

While volunteering, volunteers will be accommodated in either a home stay or dormitory situation. Host families have all been carefully selected to provide you with a safe family environment and an insight into Kenyan life.
